Uveitis Support/Canada is a nonprofit society established in 2005 to raise awareness about uveitis in Canada. Originally known as the Alberta Uveitis Society, the organization expanded its focus in 2010 to include patient education, and to facilitate the exchange of information, emotional support, and mutual aid between members. Our programs and resources are free.
In 2012 we became a chapter of the Ocular Immunology and Uveitis Foundation support network. In 2012 we were invited to represent Canada at the meeting of the International Uveitis Study Group and remained a member of that organization.
We would like to acknowledge and thank these organizations and physicians who have provided support for development of the website. Southern Alberta Eye Centre provided initial funding; the Uveitis Support Group in the US provided technical support and endless encouragement; the Ocular Immunology and Uveitis Foundation provides ongoing financial support and educational resources for the website; Lux Biosciences provided a travel grant and funding to print our pamphlet; the Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB) provides space for our meetings and technical support. Liz Irvin of the Uveitis Support Group (US) and Mike Ridley help build this website.
Finally, on a personal note, I would like to thank the following physicians for their support during the difficult time that my daughter was ill. It is because of their “never quite” attitude and skilled support that I became aware of the power that a support resource such as this can have: Howard Gimbel, Ray Lewkonia, Amin Kherani, C.Stephen Foster, Anna Ells, Andy Crichton, and Dianne Mosher.
